"Interacting in a hyperreal place like a casino gives the subject the impression that one is walking through a fantasy world where everyone is playing along. The decor isn't authentic, everything is a copy, and the whole thing feels like a dream. What isn't a dream, of course, is that the casino takes your money in exchange for chips, which you are more apt to give them when your consciousness doesn't really understand what's going on. In other words, although you may intellectually understand what happens at a casino, your consciousness thinks that gambling money in the casino is part of the "not real" world. It is in the interest of the decorators to emphasize that everything is fake, to make the entire experience seem fake. The casino succeeds in turning money itself into an object with no inherent value or inherent reality."

My Windows XP machine is running better since I upgraded the memory from 1 GB to 4 GB, but it still locks up for short periods. So I think there's something wrong software wise that's sucking up a lot of resources. The motherboard is from 2007, but it was a good one from that year, dual core 2.13 ghz with lots of features. So I am planning on getting new hard drives and rebuilding the OS from a new install.

My question is about use of RAID arrays. The motherboard has built in support for RAID0 and RAID1. So, if I buy two drives, I can either have 100% redundancy, with everything automatically backed up, or I could have them fuses in to one very fast "striped" drive, where the tracks alternate between drives. The first option seems like it would solve any problem with how things today are so cheaply made. The second option is tempting, because I don't want to grow up, I'm a toys are us kid, and I like fast things.

The drives I am looking at are 640gb Western Digital "black" drives, with 5 year warranties, so there is plenty of space and speed already. I really would like this machine to last a while and be my last Windows machine. I really would like to have my next computer be an Apple. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
